Founded by Antonio the first Carluccio’s Caffe opened in London in 1999. Alongside his team Antonio grew Carluccio’s into a highly acclaimed international restaurant business represented across The UK as well as in The Middle East, Ireland and Turkey. He continued to assist the company until he passed away in November 2017.

Penne Giardinera

One evening in the Carluccio’s restaurant in Ealing, London Antonio took to the kitchen creating the vegetarian pasta dish Penne Giardinera, a glorious mix of courgette, chilli, parmesan, spinach and giant penne which quickly became one of Carluccio’s signature dishes and a firm best seller.

Donating 50p to The Antonio Carluccio Foundation for every Penne Giardinera sold has allowed the business to raise almost two million pounds supporting projects in Liberia, Burkina Faso and Senegal as well as aiding Action Against Hunger’s efforts in major malnutrition emergencies.

2012 North to south

In 2012 seven Carluccio’s employees cycled from Glasgow to London to raise money for Action Against Hunger. Antonio saw the team off in Glasgow and later cheered them home in London.

2016 Senegal trip

In 2016 Carluccio’s employees visited Action Against Hunger/Carluccio’s projects in Senegal and cooked Penne Giardinera in the field with the team to celebrate the fund raising.

2018 Mali Project

2018 Carluccio’s supports an Action Against Hunger project in Mali. The project provides support to parents of malnourished children specifically in the area of medical costs and the burden of travel to and from medical facilities. The project in the districts of Kita and Keyes are enabling health services to better respond to seasonal increases in the incidence of severe childhood malnutrition when the risk of loss of life is at its highest.
